Thriller films research (Training day)
In this essay I will be researching the film ‘Training day’ in this film I will be looking at once again the different techniques used as well as many other technical codes.
The film once again much like his other film uses several technical codes used in an effective manner so in the use of editing through the use of jump shot to fit in the quick paced action this time in a gun scene when they are being shot at by other gangsters this helps build the emotion and adrenaline from the scene and then the getaway. The use of the music much like his other depends on the mood and the emotion, so the music helps represent the emotion so for the dangerous and unpredictable scenes in the films there is tense quick paced music which makes the film more engaging and attractive to watch, this shows that Denzel stars generally in similar genre films and he keeps several techniques and codes that leave his trademark in films etc. This would fit to the targeted audience as they would be expecting these technical codes to be used in the film and also would help build an exception and perception of the character himself.
The use of zooming in and out, this helps represent the dramatic effect in the film which would stereotype the typical and conventional thriller film so in training day it is used to show different emotions in characters and also there reaction to certain things in the film so when Denzel says something to the other cop it shows his reaction gradually and how the characters (cop) opinion is changing of the other cop. Throughout the film there is also several different uses of the camera shots/angles, these all help represent sometimes the point of view from a character etc e.g. high angle shot showing the cop in a position of weakness and then the movement further up along with the close ups shows the rapid increase of loss of control that is happening for him so this shows the action from different views and perspectives.
In the film there is also the use of large amount cutaways this is used the majority of the time to represent the different points of view or role in the film or in a conversion there opinions, this is very important especially for large amount of scenes in training day that show one opinion and then the other.
The use of editing is very important and at times in scenes the use of cross cutting from scene to scene is used very well, at times to show the different points of views e.g. people working in the office, to the people on the trains risking their lives, this helps show contrast and builds the narrative and also helps represent who is leading the narrative. The use of large amount cutaways this is used the majority of the time to represent the different points of view or role in the film or in a conversion there opinions and what they are trying to get across.
The use of the muse-en-scene helps create the narrative effectively and stereotype the characters so the cop is dressed in a leather coat with jewellery chains this can be viewed as unconventional and as the films goes on we begin to see why so the clothing helps tell us about his character .
The diegetic sound and sound effects are used effectively together as in thriller films with the action films these are very important to work together to fit the dominant ideology. These techniques all help in gratifying the audience and making effective to its genre.

Music Choice
The choice of music was essential to our video as it would help construct the narrative and make it also more attractive to the audience, and also create the emotional effect on the audience. The first music clip that was used as inofaith shadow clock, this was a tense, gloomy sound track that added the tension to the introduction and gave the audience that right feel to what the narrative could then go on to, this helps create the expectation from the film and can also create a sense of enigma.
The second music track was a fast and furious track; this was a massive contrast to the first track as it then brought to a much more emotional and sympathetic atmosphere as the character who is a officer is corrupt and his guilty for betraying his partner, without the use of the music the emotional effect isn’t as effective, so along with the use of camera angles and setting etc it all helps into making the video convey to its genre and making effective to the target audience and making them engaged to the video.

Premininlary evaluation
The original idea for the evaluation is basically our final production through the fact that we were set in the café with al casino and Paulie and they then the conversation was then happening for the short time we had in order to film it, Paulie basically thou owned money to al casino because he helped keep the Mafia away from Paulie and his family but he needed that money to pay off the ransom for his daughter. The group was split up successfully in order to complete different tasks or roles to make it successful and effectively to a set time frame. Emily in our group shared roles in order to complete tasks like the story board etc. but individual roles included mine which was the actual acting in the acting role play as well as the treatment. Ishmael then did the cool sheet and did the camera movement to get the different camera roles along with Emily when trying to do the different shots e.g. match on action.
If we would change anything it would be to spend more time on task in order to be more prepared to finish the video to the best of it possible ability.
Personally I believe that the most help piece of production paperwork would have to be the storyboard as it created a structure for the actual production as well as provided us with the different set ideas of the camera angles and how in theory it would look and what we were targeting to replicate.
The main person responsible for the main execution of the final idea would be Emily due to the fact that she was the one that actually designed the storyboard as well as playing a major role in the actual filming of the different scenes to capture the different shots. I believe that it did work and went to plan as we recreated the scenes that we designed and the final production was at a high standard.
I think that our technical skills in the production were utilized to a high level and were used into good effect into the use of camera angles etc.
